FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information contact: Lynn Smith 774.381.8050 or [email protected] James Benson 508. 583.1039 Brockton, MA- James Benson of the Brockton Historical Society (BHS) is pleased to announce that Mass Humanities has approved a $6,000 grant to the BHS and its partner the Keith Park Neighborhood Association (KPNA) for their “Sunday in the Park with George Keith – a Campello Pop-Up Village” project. Mr. Benson remarked “Henry Ford once said ‘by looking at the things that people used and how they lived, a better and truer impression can be gained than could be had in a month of reading’. This grant will allow us to make the Campello Village of the turn of the last century come alive so that Brocktonians can experience the way folks lived then, and how their lifestyle may have been different but their challenges very similar to ours today.” Lynn Smith, Treasurer of KPNA and project manager for the grant said “We are delighted to partner with the Brockton Historical Society and many community groups, nonprofits and our business community to create a fun and interactive experience to learn about life in Brockton at the turn of the 20th century.” The grant funds will be matched by inkind and cash donations and will be used to create a temporary “village” using large theatrical-style backdrops with images of eight iconic buildings. They will be installed along the main promenade of the George E. Keith Park and create a “Main Street” corridor. Each building will represent a part of daily life and will be staffed by ‘village volunteers’ who will share lively dialogue with visitors. The event is planned to coincide with the re-opening of the renovated George E. Keith Park in early summer 2017. |
